About ELIXIR

ELIXIR CZ, or the Czech National Infrastructure for Biological Data, is a research infrastructure focused on bioinformatics. It is dedicated to organizing, storing, sharing, and facilitating the interoperability of life science data for further processing and analysis. ELIXIR CZ is part of the broader European initiative, ELIXIR, which coordinates life science resources across Europe. Here are some key aspects of ELIXIR CZ:

  • Consortium: It consists of 14 partner institutions, coordinated by the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences. These partners include various universities, institutes, and e-infrastructures within the Czech Republic.

  • Services: ELIXIR CZ provides a range of services including specialized databases, tools for data analysis, and e-infrastructure services. These resources are made available in an open access format to both national and international life science researchers. Some services require authentication via systems like ELIXIR AAI for access to sensitive data.

  • Focus Areas: The infrastructure aims to address challenges in five strategic areas: Chemical Biology, Genomics, Computing and Data Management, 3D-Bioinformatics, and Precision Medicine.

  • Funding and Projects: ELIXIR CZ operates on project funding both at national and European levels, with significant support from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic. Projects often aim to ensure data adheres to the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).

  • Education and Training: It also invests in training programs, offering seminars, workshops, and hands-on courses to enhance the effective use of its services.

  • Governance: The infrastructure is governed by a Head of Infrastructure, a Board, and a Scientific Advisory Board, ensuring that its activities align with both national needs and international standards.

This infrastructure plays a crucial role in bridging life science research with IT services, facilitating research across various life science disciplines in the Czech Republic and beyond.
